The Philly cheesesteak is an iconic American dish that started as a popular street food in Philadelphia. Imagine a sandwich filled with thinly sliced beef steak, expertly sautéed onions, melty cheese, and fresh vegetables. It's straightforward, flavorful, and immensely gratifying.
Unlike Korean-style sandwiches, which often have a sweet and dessert-like flavor, American sandwiches typically emphasize savory, salty, and buttery tastes. The Philly cheesesteak exemplifies this simplicity, using only butter, salt, and pepper. 🧈
The secret to this version? Thinly sliced shabu-shabu beef. Its tenderness melts perfectly with the cheese, creating the ultimate texture combination. 🧀
The onions caramelize to a natural sweetness 🧅, pairing beautifully with the rich, melted cheese. Bell peppers bring a burst of aroma 🫑, and mushrooms add a hearty bite and extra nutrition 🍄—making this sandwich feel like a full, satisfying meal.
Traditionally, this is served on a hoagie roll, the kind you'd find at a sandwich chain like Subway. But honestly? Just use your favorite bread. 🥖Let’s make this classic Philly cheesesteak together!

Thinly shaved beef (shabu-shabu style or ribeye)
1/2 onion, sliced
1/2 green bell pepper, sliced
5 portobello mushrooms, sliced
Cheese (provolone, mozzarella, or your favorite cheese)
Butter
Salt
Black pepper
Bread (hoagie rolls or any bread you love)

👩🏻🍳 How to Make a Philly Cheesesteak
Heat some butter in a pan and sauté diced onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms until they’re cooked. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and keep cooking until the onions are nice and soft.
In a separate pan, add a little butter and sauté the shaved(Shabu Shabu) beef. Season with salt and pepper, and use scissors to cut it into bite-sized pieces.
Add the sautéed vegetables to the beef and stir-fry briefly until everything is well mixed.
Place the cheese on top while it's still hot to let it melt.
Layer cheese on the bread, then top it with the meat and vegetable mixture.
Lightly butter both sides of the sandwich and toast it in the pan until golden and crispy to finish.
📌 Cooking Tip
Adding cheese directly to the bread helps prevent it from getting soggy. It acts as a barrier, keeping the meat juices from soaking into the bread—so every bite stays perfectly crisp and delicious!
